Trinity Tidings | February 6th Edition
Sunday Worship
Last Sunday. . .
In case you missed it, Pastor Hans preached about the Beatitudes and how they connect to America’s polarization and the recent events in Minneapolis.
Trinity Choir sang Eric Nelson’s “What Does the Lord Require?” during the offertory. The text comes from the last verse of last Sunday’s first reading, Micah 6:8 “…what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?”
This Sunday. . .
Deaconess Deborah will preach about how Jesus reminds us of our identity and call as salt and light in the world.
The Mixed Ensemble will be singing André Thomas’ “Keep Your Lamps”. This beloved choral anthem is widely performed in both concert and worship settings. More often performed during Advent and it’s message serves as a reminder to be ready, especially as we reach the end of the season of light and prepare ourselves for the penitential journey through Lent.

February 8 – Your Kingdom Come
In week two, we’ll look at the line, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.” Together we’ll wonder what God’s kingdom looks like in everyday life and where we already see signs of it in Reading. Our craft this week will invite each person to create a small “vision board” that shows God’s justice, peace, and mercy at work. Come add your imagination to a large communal artwork that will be displayed in our Narthex.
The Discipline of Lent
Join us as we begin Lent on Ash Wednesday (February 18) with Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes offered at 12:00 and 7:30 PM. Throughout the season, we'll continue to be formed with Wednesday Lenten Worship in the chapel at 12:05 PM--except on February 25th, when Dr. Wentz will offer a Lenten midday recital, and on March 25th, when Kathleen Bahena will offer a moving viola recital. Tuesdays: 7:00-8:30 PM & Thursdays: 2:00-3:30 PM
A King Washes Feet: How to Love and Forgive Your Friends and Enemies—An Illustrated Bible Study by Jessica Claire Bond
We live in a world obsessed with chasing titles, power, and followers like they’ll save us. But the true King, the One who spoke galaxies into being, didn’t come with a scepter in His hand. He came with a towel. And He didn’t sit on a throne, He knelt low.
Each week you are invited to gather for honest discussion, intentional reflection, and contemplative worship in the Chapel. You are welcome to join for 1 session or for all, afternoon or evening.
If you would like to join the discussion and/or order a book, please sign up in the Narthex by February 8 or contact Dcs. Deborah.
(The book will be released on February 10 and is available on a sliding scale from $0 - $25 (the true cost of the book). Please make payments to Trinity earmarked: Lent Book Study)
From the Author - Trigger Warning:
This book is about real life. We need foot washing because we need Jesus to burst into the parts of our stories that hurt the most, and to wash us after the places we’ve walked. This book mentions subjects such as domestic violence, adultery, sexual abuse, suicide, pornography, trauma, earthquakes, death, abortion, religious persecution, and human trafficking. If these are sensitive topics for you, please be aware. But I pray that the Jesus you meet through these pages— and the way these topics are approached— brings healing. Perhaps this book was written exactly for you.
