Last Sunday. . .
Pastor Hans took us to a cliff face outside Galilee — crowded with idols, with a cave people believed was the door to the underworld — where Jesus asked his disciples who they said he was. Peter gave the best answer any disciple gives in the Gospels, and learned in the same breath that it had never been his own idea: our identity and our callings arrive from outside as a gift, and the church rests not on any one of us but on the One we confess.
This Sunday. . .
We will feature guest musician Mia Perezous on marimba and Trinity member Andrew Smith on trumpet. Mia is a Reading Musical Foundation scholarship recipient and a student at Wilson High School. Andrew is an instrumental music teacher for the Schuylkill Valley School District. We also thank Sandi Sittler for being our supply keyboardist while Dr. Wentz is on vacation.

Deaconess Deborah writes about the week a group from Trinity spent in Baltimore on a service-learning trip — cracking crabs, cleaning oyster cages in the harbor, and learning to sail — and about the conference on worship and the arts she and Dr. Wentz attended at St. Olaf College.
Pastor Hans finds good chaos in a summer of renovation and planning, and Dr. Wentz lays out a program year of much music. There are six pages from inside the sanctuary work — the ceiling, the trusses, the new ductwork, and the brick on the Washington Street side — and an introduction to the Vestry members serving this year. Sunday, September 13th
We will join with our Common Ground Recovery Community ministry, where God’s grace embraces our brokenness.
At 10:00 a.m. we will experience a Common Ground worship service led by Pastors Tom Scornavacchi and Molly Haggerty. The congregation will be seated around tables, as Common Ground gathers on Mondays. After worship we will share food and fellowship, reflecting on the worship and taking part in service projects: creating caring cards and tokens for those who need a message of hope and love. The Common Ground Recovery Community will also make these projects on Monday at the Drop-In Center.
Covenant Cup Golf Event

Join us Sunday, September 27th for the second annual Covenant Cup, a friendly golf outing with Christ Episcopal Church at Heidelberg Country Club, benefiting Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build affordable housing in Reading and Berks County.
The 1:00 p.m. shotgun start includes longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, capped off by a celebratory banquet buffet at 5:30 p.m. Registration is $125 per player ($500 per foursome) or $35 for the buffet alone, with sponsorships available and a September 15th deadline to register.

To celebrate Trinity’s 275th anniversary, we are featuring a historical event each week, curated by Danielle Smith, a rising Wilson senior and a member of our 275th Anniversary Committee. We will mark many of these events in the week they happened!

The American Revolution Ends (1783)
The American Revolution comes to an end. General Cornwallis surrenders to General Washington at Yorktown, and nearly two years later the Treaty of Paris is signed. It signifies the end of the war and official American independence. With the end of the conflict, a new and assured confidence swept the young nation, and the feeling was not lost on Trinity.

Looking For a Few Volunteers
Every Monday we will open to the community from 1-5 p.m. We are inviting you to help us help others in the midst of recovery. The volunteer needs are set up, assisting with activities such as board games, chess, art projects, etc. If you have a skill like yoga, budgeting, art, Bible conversation leader, or faith conversations, we would love you to help us lead!
