Sunday Worship

Last Sunday. . .

Deaconess Deborah took us from a childhood stop at the Four Corners Monument to a Canaanite woman who dared to cross the deepest divide of her day because her daughter was sick and she had nowhere else to turn. Her daughter was healed, the welcome of Jesus grew wider than his own job description, and we were sent home a little more aware of the human-made boundaries all around us — and of the grace that keeps crossing them.

This Sunday. . .

We will feature guest musician Ben Small on saxophone. Ben performed for us earlier this summer, and we are happy to welcome him back before he returns to Eastman in the fall. We also thank Sandi Sittler for being our supply keyboardist while Dr. Wentz is on vacation.

Blessing of the Backpacks
Sunday, August 23rd

A new school year begins with many opportunities for learning and growth.

Students and teachers and administrators and anyone who is connected to education are all invited to bring their backpacks, school bags, or another symbol of their life in school. We will say a prayer of blessing for the upcoming school year and share a backpack blessing tag.

God’s Work. Our Hands.
Sunday, September 13th

We will join with our Common Ground Recovery Community (CGRC) ministry , where God's grace embraces our brokenness.

At 10:00 a.m. we will experience a Common Ground worship service led by Pastors Tom Scornavacchi and Molly Haggerty.   After worship we will share food and fellowship, reflecting on the worship and participating in service projects: creating caring cards and tokens for those who need a message of hope and love. The projects will also be done by the CGRC on Monday at the Drop-In Center.

Covenant Cup Golf Event
Sunday, September 27th

Join us Sunday, September 27th for the second annual Covenant Cup, a friendly golf outing with Christ Episcopal Church at Heidelberg Country Club, benefiting Habitat for Humanity's mission to build affordable housing in Reading and Berks County.

The 1:00 p.m. shotgun start includes longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, capped off by a celebratory banquet buffet at 5:30 p.m. — registration is $125 per player ($500 per foursome) or $35 for the buffet alone, with sponsorships available and a September 15th deadline to register.

A Moment in Trinity’s History

To celebrate Trinity’s 275th anniversary, we are featuring a historical event each week, curated by Danielle Smith, a rising Wilson senior and a member of our 275th Anniversary Committee. We will mark many of these events in the week they happened!

First Recorded Baptism at Trinity (1751)

Trinity's earliest written record is a birth and a baptism. Henry Brosius was born on August 20, 1751, and baptized four days later, on the 24th — an entry made by Rev. Schumacher that stands as our earliest documented moment as a congregation. No one knows exactly when Reading's Lutherans first began gathering. But 275 years ago this week, someone thought to write it down.

Did You Catch This Week’s Renovation Video?

New renovation videos are posted on Fridays and do not always get featured in the weekly email. All of the renovation videos have been added to a playlist on YouTube that you can access here.
