Last Sunday. . .
Pastor Hans asked us to be careful about what we call peace, because the calm some of us are enjoying this August is not evenly distributed and it can be taken back the moment our circumstances turn. What cannot be repossessed is the peace already paid in full on a Friday, where righteousness and peace have kissed and the argument is over.
This Sunday. . .
Several Trinity members will provide special music this Sunday! Peter Graf will play two movements from a Handel sonata on recorder, and new members Bonnie DeTurck and Sarah Ferrier will play familiar hymn tunes on handbells.
Join Pastor Hans at 9 a.m. in the Welcome Center for a conversation on his letter to the congregation as well as the Statement to the Prison Board signed by himself, Dcs. Deborah, and Pr. Opalinski.
Clothing Drive for Common Ground
Common Ground needs our help. Through our partnership with the Refresh Berks shower trailer, about 17 men and women each week are stepping out clean and looking for something clean to put on. Right now, that's where we come in.
We're collecting clothing for men and women of all kinds: pants, shorts, T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, jackets, socks, and dark underwear, along with shoes, tennis shoes especially. New or gently used, every piece helps someone feel a little more ready to face the day.
Donations can be dropped off at the Trinity or Atonement church offices, Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thank you for helping us clothe our neighbors with dignity.
Covenant Cup Golf Event
Sunday, September 27th
Join us Sunday, September 27th for the second annual Covenant Cup, a friendly golf outing with Christ Episcopal Church at Heidelberg Country Club, benefiting Habitat for Humanity's mission to build affordable housing in Reading and Berks County.
The 1:00 p.m. shotgun start includes longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, capped off by a celebratory banquet buffet at 5:30 p.m. — registration is $125 per player ($500 per foursome) or $35 for the buffet alone, with sponsorships available and a September 15th deadline to register.
A Moment in Trinity’s History
To celebrate Trinity’s 275th anniversary, we are featuring a historical event each week, curated by Danielle Smith, a rising Wilson senior and a member of our 275th Anniversary Committee. We will mark many of these events on the week they happened!
The Trinity Constitution Is Written (1772)
The original Church Order, written in 1751, is replaced by the Trinity Constitution. This was a result of tensions brewing due to charges brought against the current pastor, Rev. Krug. Some wanted his removal, while others wanted him to stay. Muhlenberg wrote to him, saying that he would have no peace as long as he stayed at Trinity. Even after he left, the congregation was still at odds with one another. Muhlenberg advised for the creation of a “practical church order”, and as a result, the Trinity Constitution was written.
Pictured: the Act of Assembly passed February 28, 1861. At the Vestry's request, it changed our corporate name from "The German Lutheran Congregation of Reading" back to Trinity Lutheran Church — and authorized the sale of the old graveyard and the schoolhouse at Sixth and Washington.

Looking For a Few Volunteers
Every Monday we will open to the community from 1-5 pm We are inviting you to help us help others in the midst of recovery. The volunteer needs are set up, assisting with activities such as board games, chess, art projects, etc. If you have a skill like yoga, budgeting, art, bible conversation leader, or faith conversations, we would love you to help us lead!
