Last Sunday. . .

On Reformation Sunday, the day we reconsecrated our sanctuary, Pastor Hans reminded us that a restored house is not a place to hide but a place to be sent from. You can listen to the whole sermon here.

All Saints Sunday

Pastor Hans will preach on why our dead are not behind us, but beside us, and why All Saints is the day the empty pew stops having the last word. During the Litany of the Saints, we remember the members of Trinity who died this year and others whose names the congregation offers, and a bell is rung after each name. Our hymns include “For All the Saints,” “Sing With All the Saints in Glory,” and “Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart!” Worship is at 10:00 a.m.

Please note: North 6th Street will be closed between Washington Street and Walnut Street from Sunday, November 1st, through the evening of Wednesday, November 4th. If you usually park on 6th Street, please plan to park elsewhere.

Christ the King Sunday

Plan to spend Sunday, November 22nd, with us. Christ the King Sunday worship begins at 10:00 a.m. with a sermon from Bishop Jennifer Dee of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod and a farewell and Godspeed to Deaconess Deborah, who retires on December 1st after 27 years of ministry at Trinity and will be with us for her last Sunday. A farewell luncheon in her honor follows in the All Saints Room, and at 1:00 p.m. organist Nicole Keller joins us in the sanctuary for the next concert in our 275th Anniversary Concert Series. More details to come.

Racial Justice Team Online Book Study

The NEPA Synod Racial Justice Team invites participants to an online study of Amanda Tyler’s How to End Christian Nationalism. Beginning November 2, the nine sessions will explore the difference between Christian nationalism and the teachings of Jesus, religious freedom for all, and ways to have difficult conversations with loved ones. Trinity Transporters

“Let all that you do be done in love” — 1 Corinthians 16:14

As we walk with and pray for our members in their lives, we are starting a new ministry providing the gift of transportation. Trinity Transporters is a new subcommittee created under our Trinity Care and Concern Committee. The purpose of this ministry is to provide transportation for those who are in need if they have a doctor appointment, outpatient surgery, or other appointments and they do not have a way to reach their destination or return home.

We are looking for those who might be willing to give an hour or two to transport those in need. If so, please contact Deaconess Deborah, Donna Osborne, or Beth Welz — or call the church office at 610-374-4861.

This ministry started in September, and if you do require assistance, please contact one of the three listed above, and we will get you set up with a driver. Be assured, this will be very confidential.

Please consider being a part of this much-needed and vital ministry.

Thank you so much,

Trinity’s Care and Concern Committee

A Moment in Trinity’s History

To celebrate Trinity’s 275th anniversary, we are featuring a historical event each week, curated by Danielle Smith, a Wilson senior and a member of our 275th Anniversary Committee. We will mark many of these events in the week they happened!

The Stock Market Crashes (1929)

Black Tuesday: the day the stock market crashes, signaling the start of the Great Depression. Thousands of banks failed, causing people to lose their savings and restricting credit. Congress had been debating the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act before the crash, and when it became law in 1930, its high tariffs resulted in a massive reduction in international trade. The Gold Standard also made things tough on banks, as it limited the ability of central banks to expand the money supply. Overproduction and reduced spending did not help matters either. Trinity did its part in the community, handing out potatoes, flour, milk, sugar, canned goods, and medicine to those in need. The Parish House became a storehouse for discarded clothing fitting all ages. Countless numbers of Trinity members gave their time to distribute these goods to people in need.
