The ELCA's Churchwide Assembly
just ended--and there is a lot to report.
I'd like to highlight three things. First, the Social Statement on Faith and Civic Life that we studied in Sunday Forum last year was approved by the Assembly and now is a part of the church's official teaching. Second, Bishop Elizabeth Eaton delivered her final report as Presiding Bishop, addressing the entire church. I strongly recommend that you watch her report (about 35 minutes).
Third--and perhaps most importantly--the ELCA chose a new Presiding Bishop to succeed Bishop Eaton--Bishop Yehiel Curry of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod. Meet Bishop Curry here.
Pastor Fred Opalinski attended as a congregational observer, and will be presenting his thoughts on the full assembly in a Sunday Forum this fall.
Back to School Blessings
Sunday, August 17
This month we pray for all those returning to school. We especially remember Kate Speece who will begin her studies at the University of Pennsylvania this fall. Students of all ages, educators, support staff, etc. are welcome to bring their backpacks/laptops/devices for a special blessing at our Teaching Time during worship on August 17.
First Annual Covenant Cup
Sunday, September 7th
Join us for the first annual Covenant Cup, a friendly golf outing between Trinity Lutheran Church and Christ Episcopal Church, held at Heidelberg Country Club on Saturday, September 7th, with a 1:00 PM shotgun start. The afternoon will feature men’s and women’s longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, followed by a celebratory banquet buffet featuring brisket and salmon.
Registration is $100 per player, or become a $1,000 sponsor and receive four player spots along with event recognition. Click on the photo to register for the event. Final registration deadline is August 30th.
Come enjoy fellowship, fairways, and a little friendly competition!
August 17 and 31 Are Open
for Second Worship Sponsors
Instead of soliciting one sponsor for Altar flowers and one sponsor for the broadcast, we now offer TWO Worship Sponsors weekly at a cost of $80 each. Two Sundays in August, the 17th and the 31st, have openings for second worship sponsors.
Each of the two sponsors will have the ability to take home ONE bouquet or designate that it be donated. The altar guild will then determine the best recipient with staff, lay visitors, and the congregational care team.
Worship sponsors and the dedication will continue to be listed in the bulletin and on the broadcast. If you are interested in sponsoring, please sign the book in on the counter in the Trinity narthex or contact Rachel Gambone in the church office at rgambone@trinityreading.org or (610) 374-4861 ext. 1 and she will let you know what date(s) are available. Thank you for your generous support!
